Celebrating Manufacturing & STEAM Pathways

Manufacturing Day is a nationwide celebration of modern manufacturing that aims to inspire future manufacturers. This event included field trips to local industry partner’s facilities for a tour of the manufacturing areas. Those facilities were; Adirondack Studios, Creatacor, Curtis Lumber, Fort Miller Group or GlobalFoundries.

When students returned from the tours, they took part in interactive tables, hands-on activities and demonstrations by area STEAM and manufacturing business, SUNY Adirondack professors, WSWHE BOCES instructors and current ECCA and PTECH students. They also heard industry presentations from local companies.

This event is a result of the work of the STEAM Roundtable, a group of representatives from local STEAM businesses, various SUNY Adirondack faculty and staff members, and WSWHE BOCES leadership. Companies in attendance at the interactive event on campus included Adirondack Studios, Barton Mines, Checon, Createacor, Curtis Lumber, CEG, Fort Miller, Free Form Fibers, GlobalFoundries, Irving Tissue, National Grid and Praxis.

PTECH is a unique six-year program that gives high school students the experiences, practical skills, qualifications and credentials they need to secure rewarding careers in technology-based industries.

The Southern Adirondack PTECH is a partnership between a student’s high school, WSWHE BOCES, SUNY Adirondack and many local industries. PTECH students are incoming ninth graders who will, in parallel, earn a Regents high school diploma from their high school and an associate degree from SUNY Adirondack. This is all at no cost to the student’s family.
