“We are excited to make these career connections for our students,” said Mandy D’Andrea, principal for CTE programs. “Operation Guard X is a community collaboration that aligns with our CTE programs and offers real-world, hands-on experiences for students.”

Career exploration stations included:

  • Buzz box offering free haircuts (aligned with cosmetology)
  • Field litter ambulance and battalion aid station (aligned with health occupations)
  • Mobile kitchen trailer (aligned with culinary arts)
  • Civil support team surveying for chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear threats (aligned with environmental conservation & forestry)
  • Explosive ordnance disposal team with robotics (aligned with new visions engineering)
  • Mine resistant all-terrain vehicle (aligned with welding, automotive technology, and auto body repair)

A Blackhawk helicopter landing was a key highlight. Student were able to board the aircraft and see first hand how it is operated.

"Operation Guard X gives students a unique chance to see firsthand the many career opportunities available within the New York Army National Guard and other essential service fields," said Sergeant Jordan Simpson of the NYARNG. "By participating in this event, students explore paths in everything from technical trades to emergency response, while also gaining insight into the critical roles we play in both military and civilian life. We’re excited to be able to show them how they can serve their community and country while building a rewarding career."

Heavy equipment operations students used their skills to prepare the field for the event. Culinary arts students hosted a marketplace during the event and criminal justice students assisted with security and traffic flow.
